From September we will be discontinuing the Blu-Ray option from our transfer services. While it is a popular option (due to Blu-Ray surpassing DVD in so many ways) we have decided to make this decision as Blu-Ray was initially intended for HD video.
When we transfer your home videos we can not improve the quality and the transfer is still in standard definition, usually in 4:3 (square screen) and rarely in 16:9 (widescreen).
As the dimensions does not come close to 720 or 1080, we feel that it can be misleading when you choose to transfer your videos to this format. The expectations of the transfer also become higher. This can result in being disappointed, especially transfers from older tapes that have degraded.
The format was developed to allow rewriting, recording, and playback of high-definition (HD) videos and storing large amounts of data.
The format gives more than five times the storage capacity of conventional DVDs and can store up to 25 GB on a single-layer disc and 50 GB on a double layer disc. This additional capacity, combined with advanced audio and video codecs, provides consumers with an unprecedented HD experience.
